In Tunisia, a former setting minister has been sentenced for his position in an unlawful import of family waste from Italy.

Former minister Mustapha Aroui was dismissed and arrested in December 2020 together with different officers.

The courtroom’s verdict was introduced late on Tuesday and reported within the native Tunisian press on Wednesday.

The previous minister, together with three different defendants, was sentenced to three years in jail.

The case dates again to July 2020 when the family waste, the import of which is prohibited by regulation, was dropped at Tunisia in 280 containers by a Tunisian firm that falsely claimed it was plastic waste for recycling.

The case provoked protests from the inhabitants and native NGOs in Tunisia, who had expressed their refusal to permit their nation to turn out to be Italy’s “dustbin”.
