
A Senegalese courtroom on Thursday gave opposition politician Ousmane Sonko a two-month suspended jail sentence for defaming a minister.
Ousmane Sonko, 48, needed to reply for defamation, insults and forgery towards the Minister of Tourism Mame Mbaye Niang.
Along with the two-month suspended jail sentence, the courtroom fined Mr Sonko, who was absent from the listening to, 200 million CFA francs (300,000 euros, Ed.) to be paid to the minister. It launched him from the offences of insult and forgery.
In response to Sonko’s authorized staff, the opposition politician continues to be eligible to run within the presidential elections in 2024.
The opponent, who got here third within the presidential election in 2019, and his supporters declare that the judiciary is being utilized by the federal government to get rid of him politically and clear the way in which for the incumbent Macky Sall.
