
A coalition of Arewa elders on Tuesday warned politicians, notably Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Get together (LP) and his operating mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed over what they termed “unguided” post-election political utterances.
The group’s warning was contained in a communique learn after its assembly in Arewa Home, Kaduna State.
The chairman of the group, Suleiman Usman Jere who learn the communique, expressed fear that the LP presidential candidate and Baba-Ahmed have continued to show anti-democratic tendencies, able to inflicting civil disobedience within the nation.
In response to the elders, such utterances have been able to triggering a repeat of the 1966 coup which, in line with them, led to the killing of regional leaders.
“It’s on report that Mr Peter Obi engaged in a really divisive ethnoreligious marketing campaign through the 2023 elections and has continued to openly show anti-democratic tendencies, choosing civil disobedience and threats instead of constitutional means by means of the courts.
“We’re calling on all our safety businesses to be alive to their duties. It quantities to treason for anyone to name for truncating our democracy by no matter guises, be it Interim Nationwide Authorities, not to mention name for a army coup. Perpetrators have to be arrested and be delivered to e-book with instant impact,” the group stated.
