In one way or the other, popular personalities end up in prison. For some, it was due to circumstances beyond their control, and for others, they are guilty of what they did.
Today we take a look at some of these popular personalities who are Ghanaians and what they did to end up in jail.
At his prime, GeeMan, born Nana Akwasi Agyemang was nicknamed Ghana’s Michael Jackson. He really entertained Ghanaians with his sensational dance moves. However, things took a different turn as he spent some time in jail after shooting a taxi driver. He had the encounter with the said taxi driver in 1995 and before he shot the man, he claimed the taxi driver has cursed his best friend who happened to be Ghanaian actor, Jagger P. In his quest to make the driver revoke the curses, he ended up killing him and was subsequently sentenced to death by hanging. However, after several appeals, he was granted a presidential amnesty in January 2009 by former president Kuffour. He is now back from prison and as we speak, he is a staunch pastor.
Swedru-based musician, Emmanuel Botchwey who is widely known as Kwaw Kese is also part of our list. His was smoking cannabis in public and he was fined GHC 1,200 and subsequently ordered to serve a one-day jail term. He also spent some days in remand at the Kumasi Central Prison in the year 2014.
The late Dasebre Ahuofe Gyamera is the last person you would have thought to be an ex-convict due to his humble nature. In the year 2006, he was arrested in the United Kingdom where he was allegedly possessing some weird substances believed to cocaine. The substance was valued at £100,000. He was arraigned before the Uxbridge Magistrate’s court in London, where he was remanded in custody for seven days. The musician was released in 2007, only for him to died five years ago.
Born Akyampong, Deeba is one of the few Ghanaian musicians who spent some days in prison. He rose to fame after his popular hiplife track, Deeba gave Ghanaians some good times. He was arrested for allegedly defiling his stepdaughter in the United Kingdom. He committed the act between the years 2006 and 2008.
Shaka Zulu, born Richard Kwabena is a Ghana bouncer and a popular face on television. He was jailed in 2013 by an Accra High Court for robbery. He was sentenced by the Court along with three others to 30 years imprisonment. Per what we gathered, they were said to have violently robbed a businessman identified as Clever Omwarihiren, at gunpoint at Baatsona on the Spintex Road in Accra.
As we speak, one other Ghanaian celebrity has also been sentenced to prison. This person is the popular Ghanaian video vixen, Rosemond Brown who is widely known in showbiz as Akuapem Poloo.
She was convicted after she was found to be guilty of nudity. It could be recalled that some months ago, she was in the news for sharing a promiscuous photo of herself and her son as she celebrated her son’s birthday.
She was heavily lambasted for the photo and as she felt the heat, she deleted it. However, she was dragged to court and has been subsequently sentenced to 90 days in prison.
