A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State, Wale Aribisala, on Friday advised party leaders and members to ensure the emergence of a visionary, credible and sellable candidate who could win an election and provide the needed good governorship in the state.
The former House of Representatives member, who said Ekiti was a homogeneous state, explained that quality, competence and the need to regain the state from the governing All Progressives Congress should not be sacrificed on the altar of zoning arrangement in the primaries.
Aribisala, who spoke in Ado Ekiti while publicly declaring his interest to run in the 2022 Ekiti governorship election, said all hands must be on deck to return the PDP to winning ways so that the dream of creating wealth for the state and jobs for the teeming unemployed youths could be realized.
He said, “Everybody is free to agitate for his senatorial district. But I believe that it is the best that should win in the primaries. Ekiti is a homogeneous state, we are all Ekiti. All we need now in Ekiti is good governance.
“Forget whether you are from South, Central or North senatorial district – that does not matter now. What we need in Ekiti now, especially considering the present poor state of things, is the person that can do the job so that we can move forward as a state”.
Aribisala expressed confidence that PDP, with the right candidate, would win the 2022 governorship saying, “Our people deserve the best. Ekiti people know what they want. The ruling party at the federal and state levels has not done well. Look at the state of insecurity in Nigeria, the rising prices of food and the economy are in shambles”.
“The change we are bringing to Ekiti is to create wealth, to create jobs. Wealth creation, job creation is paramount. We will partner with the youth to create wealth to develop the state and its people. Giving handouts cannot solve the problem of the youths.
“Agriculture is generating a lot of money now all over the world. We will create an avenue for mechanised farming – rice farming, cassava farming, we are going to partner with the youths. We have our blueprint on how to create wealth, to increase the gross domestic product and bring in a lot of investment which will translate to increased revenue so that we can develop the state,” he said.
