Comoros to chair African Union in 2023

Comoros will assume the chairmanship of the African Union in 2023, the primary time the island nation is being entrusted with the project.

Comoros was handed the duty after Kenya withdrew its bid.

President Azali Assoumani and his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto had been individually lobbying for the highest publish.

In an announcement on Thursday, the Comorian president expressed gratitude to Kenya, saying the choice confirmed Nairobi’s ‘dedication to selling unity and stability within the East African area’.

Senegal’s President Macky Sall is the present chair of the African union.

The holder of the chairs the biannual summit conferences of the meeting and represents the continent in numerous worldwide fora. 

This function is completely different from that of the chairperson of the African Union fee, at present held by Chadian diplomat Moussa Faki Mahamat.
